Apple Facts
Apple trees are a member of the Rose family
- There are many different varieties and colours from Red to Green and Yellow
- Apples can be crisp, crunchy, soft and smooth, sweet and tart, depending upon the one you choose
- Apples contain vitamins A and C, potassium, Pectin and Fibre
- Apples are a very inexpensive healthy snack
- We like to Say “ An Apple a day keeps the doctor away” – it will take more than an apple to keep you healthy but it is a step in the right direction
- Over 650 tonnes of apples are grown at Broomfirlds every year
- Over 100,000 tonnes are grown in England
- Over 8 million tonnes are grown in Europe
- 60 million Tonnes are grown in the world
- Half of the apples grown are eaton fresh the rest are used for juices, cidre and processing
- Encourage your children to eat their apples with the skin on – almost half of the vitamin C is just under the skin.
